Library and Information Services

The ICAR-CICFR Library and Documentation unit serves as a repository of literature, offering the latest information in the field of aquaculture, fisheries, and allied subjects. The library plays a vital role in supporting the information needs of the Institute’s research community. In addition, the library extends its services to scholars, researchers, students and other stakeholders from nearby institutions interested in the scientific literature on coldwater fisheries and allied subjects. As part of the One Nation One Subscription (ONOS) initiative, the library offers users access to a broad range of e-resources through the ONOS platform. The library’s collection includes around 7611 books, 1700 volumes of foreign journals, 550 volumes of Indian journals, and over 9000 other publications. Records of books, journals, and bulletins are maintained using the KOHA Library Management Software, which currently holds more than 7500 entries. All the books and periodicals are barcoded, and the institute’s in-house publications have been fully digitized. The library maintains exchange relationships with various nationally and internationally reputed research organizations and institutes. Publications such as annual reports, newsletters, technical bulletins, and special releases are regularly distributed to over 100 institutions, including Directors of Fisheries Departments, Deans of Fisheries Colleges, and other relevant stakeholders. The documentation section of the library is entrusted with the responsibility of printing and publishing in-house publications such as scientific bulletins, brochures, pamphlets, annual reports, newsletters, monographs, etc.
